I'm looking at setting up a 220g pond(pre formed) on my patio and i'm wondering what would be the best bang per buck filter i could use. I'm open to any suggestions.

To be honest with you I think you would be best off making your own. I just made one and it is working great. I looked into purchasing one but the prices weren't worth it. All the filters I looked at we're above $100 and you still needed to buy a pump which would be at least another $100. For the filter I made it is basically the same as a sump but instead of water overflowing into the filter water is pumped from the pond into the filter then back to the pond gravity fed. So my pump pumps water through PVC ( I plumbed mine underground) to one of those round bin things, some people use them for grass clippings or as recycling containers. The water enters the top of the bin and splits off into three 90's. I have a filter sock attached to each of the 90 degree elbows. After water leaves the socks it goes through a drip plate and rains over the bio media. I used lava rock as my media because my grandmother was trying to get rid of it so I took it all and have it laying around. You could use whatever you prefer for bio media scrubbers would work well too. I would get a bigger pump then you think you need as I wish I would have gotten a bigger one. Forgot to look where you're from but I'm from Minnesota so during the winter I just totally shut my pond down. I added unions to all of the plumbing where it enters the round bin so they can stay underground through the winter and I can put the filter in storage. I hope that made sense to you. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Would take pics but it's pretty dark out and I don't think they would turn out, I'll try and get some tomorrow.

Thanks for the response. Since i started this thread i've deciced to go with building my on filter. Now i'm just trying to decide which design to go with. I'm thinking about the later of the two videos.

Oh yeah I watched those videos when I was planning my filter. I would still have the water come in from the top and trickle over the bio media and have the drain out the bottom.

My pond will be above ground so in order for me to have to outlet on the bottom i'd have to set the filter on top of something which is not what i want to do.
