My outdoor pond project/experiment is going well. Initially I had green water, but I added these water hyacinths/water lettuce and the pond is now crystal clear. The manager of my LFS hooked me up w/ the plants and made me a custom pond filter using a big Little Giant submersible pump, pvc, and foam blocks. Its a 288 gallon rectangular above ground pond on my patio. Its stocked w/ baby central american cichlids and livebearers. I have 5 baby RTMs, 3 Roberstoni, 3 deppi, 1 sp turqouise, a handful of cutteri from my last pair, a pair of 4 in centrarchus, 4 locally caught mystery killies, 50+ endler/feeder guppies, mollies and today we added a group of 9 bright orange sailfin mollies.

Awesome stock in that pond, and getting a water hyacinth to bloom is a good achievement! I love them but never got flowers.

Thanks chubby. They livebearers love it an have been reproducing for a few weeks now. I'm hoping the rest flower too. The manager of 50 Fathoms even hooked me up w/ 10 3 to 4in leapard frog tadpoles that were in his feeder pond, but I think they developed and hopped out already. We live near a couple big canals, so I bet they heard the call of the wild. Can't wait to see the colors on the centrals after the summer.

Nice, your centrals will have some awesome live food this summer!
I have about 200 tadpoles in my mini pond, nowhere near maturity yet!
I'm thinking about putting centrals in there, too, at the end of may-I'm thinking Firemouths, rainbows or something completely different. Got any suggestions? It's 22.5 gallons and they will be alone.

I would go w/ something small and colorful from cryptoheros like sajica, spirillus, cutteri, nanoleatus, etc. Something small from the firemouth family could be cool too like aureum or pasiones. The lfs where I get most of my grass shrimp from has some panamensis and I was thinking a out throwing them in there. Where are you located? I still have a bunch of cutteri left.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I'm in Germany.. which sucks because 1. I don't have as many fish available and 2. I have big day/night and summer/winter fluctuation..
Cutteri's would be awesome, would have to see if I can even get them here though. How hardy are they?

Very hardy, the race I have are very pretty. Parents had bright blue eyes w/ pastel blue and yellow through the body and female's breeding dress was amazing. I was gonna offer to send you some, but that might be difficult since your in Germany.

Wow, sounds cool, definately going to look into them.. thanks a lot for the advice.
Yeah living here sucks fishkeeping wise.. apart from that I get Wels at 1/10 of the american price..but a Wels would eat my other fish so can't get one :(

Yeah but his prices are insane-I mean, you can't blame him, since he probably buys them that expensive, but still. I get them for 10 Euros here. Yes they are, which is a pity cause I would love on for my pond.
No, I can't buy from glaser since they only sell to stores. One of my LFS does though, and so do a few online shops - real awesome fish! Do they have cutteri?
