I have a 300g Rubbermaid and messed up the drain plug on it. So I'm going to put a pond liner inside it. It's 45 mil. My question is will it have a weak spot where the drain plug is since its hollow or what if I just removed it completely? Will the liner eventually tear any ideas on what I could do to cover the hole so it won't bulge thru

take the bulkhead out, duct tape a 4"x4" piece of wood and or foam insulation over the hole and add liner... Honestly id just buy a new bulkhead tho. maybe $10

Alright and originally that's what I did and I tried retro fitting the new one and it didn't go so well. I also already have the liner. I plan on putting it in tomorrow morning

Liner should serve u well then no prob... i ran a pool for 2 yrs with a liner in it and open bulkhead hole but plugging it as suggested to not stress the liner is def. smart.
