new to site, looks good, and found alot of info. my problem is my bamboo is now 2 foot long, and i need him out of my reef tank. what is better a plywood tank , or a pond set up. i heard that a circular pond is better for sharks, and if i move him i will prob get in to sum rays , and an eel, along with a grouper, or something in that nature.
pond will be more cost friendly, but what are the other pros and cons of both......... i do know that a budddy of has a 300 gal glass set up for like 3500 or so. i know that will soon b 2 small even though its 7 x 3 x3 ft. i cant imagen how much a larger glass will cost, so thats out of the ?

Pond is cheaper to set up, easier to maintain and a better overall enclosure for a shark (assuming you get one big enough).

Id personally do a pond for him.

A pond is usually much cheaper to set up than an Aquarium is.

Exactly what size of pond that you will need is basically depending on what species of Bamboo shark you have.

And when it comes to sharks -round or oval ponds are best. Good possible ponds for bamboo sharks - include small above ground swimming pools, and pre-made plastic "poly" ponds that are about 8-10' in diameter. Often times these will cost about 1/5 the amount of a equal size glass Aquarium.

I'd do a pond. Here is a pool from target that some people have used for freshwater rays. Its cheap too. The liner is awesome and as long as its inside and protected from the sun it should last a long while. http://www.target.com/Metal-Frame-P...6488129?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k:pool&page=1
I haven't used one yet but I have plans to build a wood ray pond/bunk bed and I am thinking about buying it just for the liner.

I was thinking of making a big saltwater pool in my backyard for a blacktip reef shark and some other marine life but how many gallons do you suggest and tell me some hints and stuff thx

For a Single adult Blacktip Reef - think large inground swimming pool with a footprint of no less than 700 sq. ft, and an average depth of at least 5' deep - which means roughly 25,000 gallons. If you want more than 1 Blacktip Reef - plan on a large swimming pool size pond that is has a foot print of at least 1,000 sq.ft. , and average depth of at least 6' - for at least 45,000 gallons.

Also Plan on have some kind of enclosure around the pond and filtration system. As a private aquarist you really don't want any shark pond to be exposed to the elements. That can cause a load of potential problems - including seriously affect the salinity and water quality of the pond.

Ya I would say the budget needed to keep black tip reefs in a good set up would be around 60,000 bucks.
I could be way off but just correct me if anything seems way off
I figure 40,000 for the built in pool
5,000 for a covering
2,000 for heating and cooling units
filtration would probably be about 10,000
and probably about 2,000 to fill it up
so I think thats 59,000

I could be way off though as I have never even considered keeping them and haven't done too much research on it.
