I was at my local plant nursery yesterday and wandered my their pond section. They had bags of "Aquascape" brand pond plant potting media. I'm wondering if anyone has tried something like this.

"Aquascape Pond Plant Potting Media is an all-natural, non-toxic alluvial planting media perfect for supporting the growth of aquatic plants. Each bag is free of peat moss or compost and completely safe for your pond fish."

"contains soil harvested from lake and stream sediment deposits"

it seemed to have a bit of coarseness to it from handling the bag. The plus side is that it's less than $9 per bag (215 cubic inches/.0035 cubic meters). That is a lot cheaper than the fluval stratum I was planning on using for my new 75 g tank.

(I'd post a link to the product, but I'm too new to be allowed to do that)

Thanks!

Sounds like it’ll work out fine. I’d place a layer of gravel on top so not to be disturbed and get kicked up.
