pond/pressure filter on 10x3x2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not the water clarity no ..... a 10x3x2 isn't that huge that its going to require much more then any other tank. A filter like that is going to cost you about $3500 to $4000 in Tasmania plus the pump. You can't buy that filter and have it shipped to you which would be another few hundred and expect it to work here as its not the correct power system and the media and plumbing for that is not available here. You would have to buy a system like a Aquadyne that is imported into Australia. A pressure pump for that type of filter is going to cost you another $800-1200 and the plumbing another few hundred. Its only 1700 liters for $3000 I'd be putting on 3 Eheim 2080's.

Thanks for the reply,
would the media out of the seagate filters (xtreme bio media) be ok in a sump or is it for fluid bed filtration only?? it claims 870in*2 per 1ft*3 ssa. which i think is a lot more than regular bio balls.
would a sump filter be able to do this alone??
most large tanks on here seem to use a canister as well. why is that?
thanks again.
Tom.

Well people here usually use sumps but bioballs/plastic media etc are so 1980's ... I'd use Seachem pond matrix I use it in my sumps and it has a surface area about 130 times that of bioballs. Canister's are good for big tanks because you can use several therefore if one is being changed you have the others. That tank of yours is a old seafood holidng tank and its drilled. You could easily hook up 6 cheap Resun EF-2800U's or SunSun HW-304B canister filters and have them basically plumbed in straight away. I use Eheim Pro3's but they are $900 with media here.
