So, I'm rebuilding the Koi Pond, An entire thread will be here shortly but I'm trying to decide if I want to throw hundreds of dollars at a Pressurized Canister Filter or if I can get away with using a Barrel Filter as I already have the barrel.

Here's what I want to do. I have an AquaSurge 2000 Submersible Pump. I want to run 1 1/2 -2" Pvc from the pond about 10 feet and feed a typical Barrel Filter. The Barrel would have the Swirl Setup at the bottom, With a Drain, and an Egg Crate Grate shelf to keep the media off the bottom leaving a settling spot. I'm also going to set up a Bubble tube at the bottom to assist in agitating the media when i want to clean it. Media of choice will be Pond Matrix. Above that I'll use some pads and pin them down with another piece of eggcrate. Above the eggcrate will be a 2" return line that will come out of the side of the barrel bend 90* go down 3' bend 90 degrees and travel 5'. This will put the pipe under the bottom plate of a 3 tier water fall, The pipe would bend 90* upward and be split 3 times to 3/4" tube each with their own control valve.

My question is will the gravity drop of 3' be enough to allow the water to push back up 22" to the top tier of the Waterfall, Or should I just feed the Filter return to the bottom tier, and get a second small pump to feed the top two tiers?

If this doesn't make sense to you I'm sorry I tried to explain it as best I could.

As long as the source is higher than the destination it will flow fine, though the reduction from a 2" pipe to 3x 3/4" will reduce the potential flow quite a bit, and since you are reducing the flow on the lower two you are going to reduce the total flow rate even more. If you are running anywhere near the maximum potential flow rate created by the given drop for a 2" pipe, then the reduction will be too much.

Why are you feeding each tier of the waterfall separately? Feeding the top tier should feed the entire thing, shouldn't it? If possible, I would avoid reducing this and run a 2" all the way to the top or reduce to three 1.25 or 1.5" tubes if you have to feed each tier individually. If you have to reduce to 3/4" tubes then you may need to divert some of your flow to another output
