Well I want to build a pond next year, but my wife is afraid of some adult or kid falling into it. Has anyone heard of or seen some kind of net or other barrier that go's over the pond. The pond will be 8'x8' and 4' deep.

To keep kids/people out.. other than a fence.. I don't think there is anything you can use.

And depending on your area's codes, you may be required to have a fence around it.

You will however need netting over it to keep birds out, and to keep your fish in!

You can try split rail fencing.. And then put some non noticeable wire fencing to keep the spaces covered so no kids can climb through.

If you look closely at the pic, you can see the wire on this fencing.. and there is also fishing line running across the pond to keep out birds.

I like your pond, might go with the rail fence like you did, what kind of wire fencing did you use in the spaces. Also does the fishing line really keep the birds from the fish?

That's not my pond, just a net pic.

I have a commercial 8 ft high privacy fence, so no one knows I have a pond. lol.

It looks to be the squared thicker wire on the fencing, and yes, fishing line does work, but the fashion that it's strung isn't doing much for this pond.

www.Koiphen.com is a great place for pond info.

My pond is 6,000 gallons, and is actually the decorative cinderblocks. I had to use these because if not, my dogs would be able to get into it. It's only about a ft in ground. It's still in the build process though.

I would check with your local building code for a front yard water feature and see what they say. It will most likely really depend on depth

In my area, anything more that 4" deep needs to have a permit.
