They are clogging the pump intake, even with 3 plastic strainers in front. I popped the cover & they even laid eggs INSIDE the impeller chamber! Anybody found a way to keep those little guys out of the pump? Its my snail breeding tank, so I dont want to kill them, just keep them away from the pump intake somehow...

That's pretty crazy. My snails don't do that kind of stuff. Have you considered a high-quality air-powered sponge filter instead? I can't think of any way to keep the buggers out. When they first crawl out of the egg gel they're soooo tiny! The kind of barrier you'd need to block them would clog pretty fast.

I'd just clean the impeller every week and see if that beats the clog attempts. Have they actually stopped the filter? You're probably fine as long as it keeps running.

I have a sponge filter in there, but the pump they're clogging is the main circulation pump to keep water moving through all the chambers. Its almost like a sump/fuge, but I have chambers for each type of snail & 1 plant nursery. They slowed it down enough to allow several ramshorns to crawl a foot or so UP the output hose! I agree that any media small enough will clog too fast, so I'll just try the weekly impeller cleaning for now... Until somebody comes up with a genius idea for me, that is.

Bumpity. Somebody must have had this problem before...
BTW, did you have even the slightest clue that a stainless steel fine mesh strainer-bowl-thingy costs 20 flippin dollars?!!!

Too restrictive. The pump got loud as soon as I put it on... I tried 30ppi foam instead & it looks ok after 12 hours, but I can tell I'll be changing it very soon.

Does even ONE person think that fine steel mesh strainer (pasta strainer) might be a good idea? I'm not dropping 20 bux unless somebody other than me thinks it might work... Any other ideas? Thanks!

The babies will crawl through and grow on the other side of the mesh. I think this just calls for more maintenance than usual.
