Today I found one of my cichlids lying on the bottom with the back half of his body shedding scales. I tested my water, Ph alittle over 8, my amonia was alittle high though between .25 and 1.5 on the scale. I attribute this to ammonia burn. So I treated the pond with some ammonia reducing stuff.

It was only my 150 gallon pond so it wasn't too bad but I am wondering what do other people do when all thier fish are sick and they've got hundreds of gallons to treat? Buy 100lbs of aquarium salt and a heater???? What if its fungus? or a bacterial infection? Where would you buy that much med without going bankrupt

Quarantine, other than that it get expensive, pond or tank the up keep is a lot larger as you step up, friends in the game can help out at almost trade prices in an emergency. It's not what you know but who etc. A lot can be saved by common sense, I use pond dechlorinator on my tanks instead of the tank stuff, costs me about £15 a year compared to £15 a week for the tank only stuff. Pond meds also work but I choose not to risk it, melafix is still within my reach;)

At 150 g you should be able to treat without breaking the bank

Ditto to Yanbbrox. I have 1200+ gals. and QT before introducing any new fish in a 15 gal. tank. I use that same 15 gal. in the spring if some of my female goldfish get to beat up by the males. It is easier to treat a smaller amt. of water than the pond.
