I'm building a large pond this spring, around 12'x10'x5' with a 2' wide by 2' deep shelf on 2 sides. There will be about 10 koi, a bunch of longear sunfish and some snails and frogs. What kind of turtle can live in there year round. I like softshells but I dont know much about them. I can bring them inside during the winter if I have to.

If you want snails and frogs in your pond, then you don't want to have a soft shell turtle in it too. They will eat them fast than you can say "Pond turtle".

I would rather put some cooters, sliders or painteds in it. They are not as aggressive as the soft shells and won't harm your frogs.

with any turtle you run the risk of it eating your fish frogs, every thing. i would personally devote the pond to a soft shell but your best chance of everything coexisting would be the turts mentioned above.

I'd go with Painted Turtles. Attractive, friendly, don't get huge and will pretty much leave your fish alone.

Ive got a couple of 6-8" yellow bellies and i threw a bunch of feeder mollies in there when i built the tank to cycle the water, and they have yet to touch them. But it varies with every turtle

I've kept painteds before. I catch them all the time, so I guess I'll put a few in my pond. How many can I put in there safely? I also have a small injured res that was attacked by a dog, and his shell wont heal. A few scales were chewed off and a small chunch bitten off his stomach. Is there anything that might help him heal faster?
