I have a 5000 gallon outdoor pond and I set up one of my above ground indoor pools a few days ago for some more species I plan on catching this weekend...channel cats, flathead cats, white perch, sunfish, bluegill, yellow perch, etc. I was trying to catch a few fish in my pond with a net to put in it and I got one of the these. I forgot I have a few of them in there and they are growing nicely. The colors are nice and hard to capture with the camera. In this area they are called warmouth bass and I know some people call them green sunfish.

They're definitely green sunfish (Lepomis Cyanellus) but Warmouth are an entirely different species (Lepomis Gulosus). Here's a picture of one of the many Warmouth I've caught for comparison.

Thanks! They're pretty cool. I usually use them for bait for flatheads and channels but I have a few in my pond.

They're great in tanks, TONS of personality! I've got a female in a 30L with 4 creek chubs and there's always something going in that tank :)

Yup. Green Sunfish. I too have one and he's one of my favorites. Eats anything. :)

Wish mine was that voracious, I always have to target feed her food since the creek chubs will eat absolutely anything and everything they can get their mouths' on :)
