Can plecs rasp through a pvc pondliner ?

No the most they are going to do is scratch it. However some of the larger ones might be able to break through with there tails.

pleco might simply scratch it alittle

number one enemy of pond liner is the sun....

i duno, plecos (the bigger ones) can make huge craters in acrylic, theres a picture of wat one has done on here.

My uncle has 46mil pvc pond liner in his 9000gl pond out doors, and in his 800gl pond in the basement. He has pacus and common plecos in it and he hasn't had any problems. He hasn't had problems in either pond with them.

Yes they can do large damage to a pond liner, but it is rare. And it usually is a large panaque that will cause the craters.

hmmm, so if its an outdoor pond, you'll only want to put something like commons in, and if its indoor, careful you dont get a big plastic eating machine

Or just make sure you have a good supply of food in the tank, or lots of Algae rocks rotating in very regularly.
