pool filter sand quick help?!?!?

i was planning on getting pool filter sand today for my new tank for rays, and started calling around pool stores, and everybody says they only carry silica sand!?!? i thought silica sand is bad for rays????? what should i do i called like 4 stores and they all only have silica sand????

If you have a Leslie pool supply within reason distance, just get theirs. I didn't pay attention if is was silica or not, but it's just fine for rays... and cheap.

it's fine for rays... been using it 6 months now with no problems at all. Heard of other people using this exact sand too.

im new to rays, and we have only had our 2 about 2 months there in silica sand and we haven't had any problems with it yet. You will lickey get people responding to both sides of this topic.

I never specifically checked the details on the sand I've used in my tanks either and never had any issues. I've used regular "play sand" from Home Depot and Lowe's, and then PFS from Home Depot. Never had any problems with either. Again, I have no idea if it was "silica" based though. Never checked.

the term pool filter sand covers so many types

i feel its not correct to say pool filter sand is safe unless you quote an extact brand and size of the pool filter sand

Are you using a fluidised sand filter ?
