Where do you guys buy it? Home Depot and Lowes dont have it near me. I saw some White sand at my LFS for 20 bucks for 25 lbs, thinking of just picking that up. Thoughts? I've got a 40 gallon, thinking 20 lbs should be enough.

anywhere thst sell swimming pools will have it for cheap.

I don't think it is usually quite that cheap. I found it for $8 per 50 lbs at a pool supply store.

pool supply stores.. theres usuially a few different choices.. average price is anywhere from $5-$10 for a 50lb bag

do you mean different choices in grain size or color?

for a 40g id put in 40lb. i put 80lb in my 55g.

id still search because you can find it cheaper. home depots sells 40lb bags for $4.

on a side note, i did see a tank with pool filter sand mixed with tahitian moon sand and looked real good

What if you live up north and it's winter time. The majority of places I've called say they dont carry it because no one has their pools open during winter. Sorta sucks!

I'm sure there is a pool store around that has a few bags left over from this past season. Just call around and look until you find some. There has to be some available.
