Hey guys I have a 10 gallon FW and I really dont like the gravel i have in there. I was looking at some possible substrates and I found that alot of people like pool filter sand. I like the look of it and how it wont do anything to my water/filter. I was just wondering whats your opinion on PFS. Also I already have fish in the tank (guppies and neons) so I was just wondering if I could put it in then put them back in? :feedback:

yeah, i use it in both my tanks. I like the look of it. It does turn tan after a while, but it's a nice tan, very natural. The only thing is that it compacts so plant roots will have a hard time growing/expanding in it. Also, the fish waste just sits on top, so you'll have to vacuum the top layer if you want a clean looking substrate, but it's not that big of a deal. Also, it can trap air bubbles, so the best method I've found is to fill the tank up about 1/3 full of water, then drop the sand in, rather than putting the sand in, then the water, because that way the sand won't trap air, which can stagnate and when released, be toxic to the water and smell like crap.

Make sure you rinse the hell out of it before putting it in your tank.

I use it in all my tanks. Make sure you rinse it until it is clear. It took us 45 minutes to rinse 50 pounds with the hose. It does make the tanks look a lot bet IMO.

I used PFS in my 75 and didn't have to rinse it at all! Tried to though...and it was clear as could be. It looks good, and is cost effective. Go for it!

hey just curious but do i have to take the fish out of the tank while adding the sand? or can i add the sand with fish in tank?
