How big is the grain of pool filter sand? Does it need frequent vaccuming, and is it pre cleaned, or do I have to clean it before I put it in my tank? I will have a 1000 gov pump in my sump and was hoping it would take fish poop off the botom?

The grains are bigger than play sand so you can aim some good flow at it and it will probably blow around but not rise up to your overflows. You should always clean new substrate no matter how clean it appears. That being said mine didn't require much.
