what about using a small pool filter for a large aquarium or small pond? would it clean the water well enough? I just happens to have one and was wondering if anyone had tried this

Answer = Yes

The rest of the story...

The cartridge filters for small pools are not capable of handling head pressure (lifting water) so it has to be mounted about level with the tank.

They are not meant to be run 24/7 so don't expect a long life from it. (have a backup ready).

The cartridge filter is made to clean very fine paticulate from the water and without a pre-filter, the cartridge will clog quickly.

These filters do push alot of water so currents could be a problem also.

If the above are acceptable, then clean the unit out with a dechlorinated water very well (so you can't small any chlorine), get a new filter cartridge, plumb it up and have a go with it and report your findings.

:iagree:good idea i tried it, it did not work very well, would not pull water very well they are for the most part gravity fed and will not push the water back, and was very noisy.
