any one use small pool filters. reason asking is I have a 90 gal. that had an over flow in it and i removed it. now im left with a large hole that I put a plug in. But had an idea to plumb a small pool filter through the bottom. any other ideas out there. certain types, brands to look for or is this just a crazy idea. my wife thinks so

lots of us use pool pumps however you are going to need to do a lil more work than simply add a pump and call it done..

Those "kiddie" filter/pump units will not work as an aquarium filter.
1. Very loud
2. Will burn out pretty quick running 24-7
3. Use a ton of electricity for what they do
If you have an inline pump handy, plumb in a "whole house" water filter. These filters do a great job. Standard 20 micron cartridges are cheap and the "spin on" container makes changes a snap.
BTW: I use a 530gph kiddie filter as a powered gravel vac...Does work great for that.

do some searching/research on sumps.. bigalsonline.com is a good place for cheap pumps..

thee powered vac. sounds like a good idea. just to add this was only an idea that i had cause of the hole in the bottom of the tank and wanted to utilize it some how

put the overflow back in and you will be half way there
