Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has ever used a pool filter on an aquarium.

I have an old pool filter I was thinking of adapting for my 30gal. The only problem I see is the fact that it is rated for 530gph. If my math is right thats going to turn over the water 17.6 times an hour, which if I wanted to raise trout may be nice.

I was wondering if I put ball valves in the lines would I be able to lower the flow enough for this tank?

Thanks,

Scott

No one at all has tried this? :WHOA:

you're talking an intex pool filter? take the pump out of it and junk the rest.

or I guess you could take the media out of it and put in some mesh and some bio media. might be a cheap canister, although quite bulky. I still say the pump is the only thing worht anythign though.

put in a sump "y" the output. one to tank one back into sump. use the ball valve to get proper turn over with less over kill

Pool pumps are loud, energy inefficient and not designed to be run 24/7.
Other than that it would work in concept.
I use "pool" cartridges in my Mechanical filtration (think Ocean Clear). :)

you could use a pool filter but you would have to modify it first

Thanks for the input guys. I think Im going to scrap the idea and save it for when I build my big tank. Im thinking it would work good to do water changes with since it isnt very good to run 24/7. Eventually I am planning on building around a 400gal plywood tank as soon as me and the mrs move somewhere more permanent.

Thanks,
Scott
