Pool filter

I recently tried this thread on AC. Apparently there are no ACers that want to think outside of the box. I aquired a small pool filter and it's been sitting around in my garden shed. Lately I have been interested in Vortex diatom filters. I want to use the pool filter as a diatom and as a maintenance routine to polish the water column. I wonder if anyone on MFK has used a pool filter in their aquarium.

Not tried it but have been considering it. What type of pool filter is it? I have been looking at the sand filters koi owners often use

The filter I have is an Intex cartridge filter either for a 500 or 800 gal. pool. I am getting a cartridge but don't know how many microns it filters to. Maybe that info is on the box but not on their website. I was going to wrap the filter in bonded filter media also. Maybe it's a waste of time but if it is I'll throw it in my garden pond.
