I have been looking into the best method for sealing the concrete tank that I'm planning on building, and have read about and experienced adhesion problems with various methods. Epoxy and fiberglass resins are expensive. I have tried rubberized coatings, which I had adhesion problems with, and they are also expensive.
I have built both a poured concrete and a cinder block cistern and tried a water proofing material similar to a cement plaster which worked well, but it was expensive stuff also. Have to dig around to find the name of the stuff if anyone is interested. Manufacturer claims it bonded extremely well to concrete, but it was not very elastic so if any hairline cracks in the concrete developed the seal would be destroyed. We haven't had any problems though so far.
I'm wondering if any pool builders would care to comment on weather the plaster used in sealing pools would be suitable for a large concrete or block tank?
Block is so porous it is kind of hard to seal with epoxy or a rubberized sealer without trapping air bubbles under the sealer, also I have had the same problem with poured concrete.
Block is nice to work with because you don't have the considerable expense of forms as with poured concrete.
