What is easiest to clean or just dump. I was researching and it seems pool sand is best. Where Can I buy it at. Lowes or HD. Need it in tank Asap. Can't keep turtle in tub it is in.

I'm using quikrete sand and I picked up a 50lbs bag for 10$ at a pool supply store. It took about a half hour to rinse out completely clear using two buckets. I used a small cup and added it to my fish tanks one cup at a Time. Took about another 30 minutes. Use this method and you wont have to remove fish. Just slowly add the cup of sand to the tank and slowly bring it to the bottom. Then slowly tip the cup spilling the sand out. You'll need to turn off all circulation pumps you might have or you could have a disaster. Its heavy sand and never gets sucked into my filters but I still took my time not to make it stir up! It didn't cloud up one but in my tank!!! Good luck :)

I got mine at Home Depot. Threw it in, ran the tank overnight, changed filter socks and that was pretty much it.
Pfs comes pretty clean.

That sounds about right, its pretty dirty stuff. did it cloud up your tank at all? probably looks good though with the different grain sizes. I only use pool filtration sand so I wouldn't know what it looks like. feel like posting a picture?

I have tried Quikcrete play sand and found it too fine... it would stick to the fish waste, get stirred up and was a general pain in the ass. I then tried Quikcrete all purpose sand, it was a good dark color but it took most of the day to wash enough for my 180g tank and it still took a long time to settle down in the tank. I thought the grains would be bigger too. Finally on a whim I went to a Namco pool supply store to see what they had, I had avoided pool sand because all the samples I had seen were to light in color... but what they had in stock was perfect. The color was much darker that what I had normally seen and it settles quickly so it does not get sucked into my filters.

worst sand ever. looks nice if you don't own any fish that will touch it. we've had it over 6 months and have rinsed, cleaned, vacuumed this sand and it still makes an absolute cloudy mess. can't wait to get rid of it. never again!
