I saw him in the tank with 12 inch oscars and a green terror.. I ended up getting him (or her im not sure..lol) -I havent named him yet, he is in the quarantine tank with a bit of freshwater salt because he has a cut on his lower jaw, probably from the big guys. he's about 4 inches long and is very active. I of course Have a nice tight top as i heard these guys are famous for jumping.

Ill shut up now- here's some pix:

Any advice for a New Birchir owner

ps i brought him some tubifex worms, and I read the stickies :)

Bichirs are pretty broad with food. They'll eat anything that fits in its mouth (I have a palmus and at first i didnt think it would be bad sharing a tank with the feeders, but later found out that it ate many of them, so i removed the feeders :P) Anyways just becareful if you have tankmates that are smaller, it may eat or chew on it.

thanks for the advice..lol he's going to be alone for a while at least till he grows a bit more.

I see bubbles on the glass. Did you just fill the tank with water? Not a good idea...he (looks like a male) might have bben better off with the oscars.

The store actually made a terrible decision putting a 4 inch bichir in a tank with 12 inch oscars...I've had a small little 4 inch oscar who chased off my palmas and had it halfway inside its mouth. I had to literally stick my hands to scare off the oscar so the palmas could escape. Those bubble like things on his tank could have meant water change or small algae...

@Garmama, i forgot to add, if your gonna add tankmates in the future, make sure its a good size cause bichirs somtimes look like a worm to other fish. (my red oscar almost ate mine!! :irked:)

:banhim: Plus if his Senegal is 4" it's not mature yet and won't be able to tell untill it's 6"-8"

nice sen, but better off with sands or bare bottom tank, how big is that tank?
