So today i went out and bought 2 silver aro's from a guy, and when i brought them home i found them with pop eye. The bigger aro around 7-8 inch has more pop eye then the other one from 6-7 inches. Here are some pics of what they look like (sorry for low quality, was hard to take a pic). Will this heal on its own since i know my water quality is very good. (Not sure how good the quality of the water was, but when i opened the bag, it smelled terrible) Anyways i read some info about pop eye and heard that it can heal on its own or with medicine. Should i just wait and see what happens as this is the first day i recieved these 2 arowanas, so help me out here. Thanks :D

Can't really tell if it's pop eye or not but from the pictures it looks more like they're just very stunted fish as the eyes are very disproportional to the head size. If you could get anymore pictures then that would be great, just don't stress them out too much by chasing them around with a camera.

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure I've ever heard of a silver aro with pop eye. Just keep you water pristine(under 10ppm) and let them get settled for now.

Thanks for the fast reply! Yeah, thats what i thought first, if it was just a growth thing and the eyes will match up to there size later on. I'll see what happens and if they act any differently, so far alittle stressed from the move so not eating, but swimming happily.

A stunted silver aro? :S I really wouldn't mind having one right about now :P
Nice fish btw :)

Stunted = unhealthy. You don't want a malnourished fish do you?

Quick update, both arowanas are swimming happily and today began eating hikari sticks. Gonna stick around to see what the eye problem is, i'm guessing its just how it was when it was a fry/born? idk but we'll see if anything changes.

oh right:confused: didn't really think of it that way, just thought maybe cos u get small paroons and stuff that are stunted this might be like one of em..

more than likely it was kept in poor water conditions.Could even possibly be from sitting in the bag with high ammonia or nitrates/etc.(But I doubt it if it was brought right home) It should clear up with salt and raised temperature.as long as your tanks have good water

Yes poor water conditions are one of the many factors for stunted fish. What is the point of the addition of salt as well as higher temperatures? What this fish needs is good water conditions, low stress levels and lots of food.
