Ive been running my 75 gallon with a 20 gallon sump with two 4" socks swapping out between 50 and 100 microns. im happy with the filtration but with a new baby havent been changing them out as much. Also with a new washer, my fiancee doesnt approve of me washing them in it. so ive been looking at redesigning my sump and instead of the micron socks, i was thinking about running 4" of 20 ppi and 2" of 30ppi and/or possibly 2" of 45 ppi poret foam spanning acrost the tank mattenfilter style with my 6 liters of matrix in media bag with a few airstones under them for more bio. Anyone here use poret like this? i have seached and havent found very much info anywhere on this.
also being as the foam i know wont get the finest of particals, has anyone tried running a 10" or 20" filter housing holding a pleated 25 to 50 micron cartridge? basically the same idea as the lifegard aquatics mechanical filter moduals (another option i have been considering). my only concern being if my pump, an eheim 1260, being able to push water through the element. i know it will slow down my flow rate, and if it does slow it down too much i can always buy the part to turn it into a 1262 and give me more flow that way. once again i think i would be running into troubles with my lifereef single overflow. so what are your guys' thoughts?
