So I'm getting a tank very soon for the fishroom I'm building that will be in the range of 240-300 Gallons (most likely the upper end since I am getting offered a great deal) and I'm conflicted between doing all Natives (plus a Gibbiceps I have) or all Catfish. The dimensions of the 300 Gallon would be 96"x36"x24", if I went on the lower end they'd be 96"x30"x24" but let's talk about the 300G for now. Two fish I already have that are going in this tank regardless of being natives or cats are my Gibbiceps Pleco and Yellow Bullhead so tankmates must be compatible with them. One last thing is I'd like at least some of the cats to be somewhat active for some movement in the tank during the day. So what are my options if I did all catfish?

Hmmm. All cats? That could get tricky if you're after daytime movement and a lack of aggression. A lot of it when dealing with aggression will probably come down to the order in which you stack them in. That being said, you have some of the following as options:

- Lima Shovel
- Lince (if you can afford it!)
- Jur or Tig (pick one)
- Bagarius rutilus
- Ompoks
- Sun cats
- Other bullheads
- Wood cats, like jags for example
- Maybe a gulper if you're feeling brave?
- Ageneiosus marmoratus

Oh and PS- 96*36*24/231=360 ;)

I'm liking those options :). Lince are in my top 10 cats. 360 will be nice!

Could something like this work or is this to overstocked?

1 Gibbiceps Pleco
1 Yellow Bullhead
1 Megalodoras
1 Vulture Cat
1 Giraffe Cat
1 Jur (if there's any room left in your guys opinion)

I feel like....a solid native setup would be awesome for a 300 man...all cats is cool but I think a yellow bull, that big mean pleco, your yellow perch when they are big enough to not be breath mint size for your cat, a grass pickerel or 2 (I will suggest a pickerel in every native setup haha), and maybe a black crappie or 2...dream tank right there man...hell at 300 you MIGHT be able to get away with putting your angry little greenie in there too, the perch will keep him in line when they get size on em.

could even put a couple sizeable crayfish to stir up the substrate for ya, i had 4 with my bullhead...after he gained 2 inches strangely only Big Black Jack the crayfish and Jaque the 2nd biggest are left...and they clean the tank real well lol. granted with the list I suggested you probably wouldnt have any left between the crappie and perch..

PS where are you getting these sweet deals at?!?! I've been searching for a 125+ for months now haha and every one I find the people want 600+ for scummy, dirty old tanks haha.

That would work IMO. You could probably even get a rutilus in there as well, if of course you fancy a goonch, if you go with the 360.

This would be cool, too. Esox are awesome fish!

You have to be willing to travel to the nearest million+ city or two. The deals are much more common there.

oh I'm more than willing haha, I'm right outside of Pittsburgh, and Dive isn't to far from there either, thats why I asked haha. Its actually pittsburgh that has the worst deals....people on the North Hills buy these GIANT tanks for full retail...get bored with them in a year...then try to sell them for the same price...its horrible here haha.

Check the craigslists in Jersey. For some inexplicable reason, Jersey is like the fish capital if the country; there's always good deals there.

Josh, I have a friend who's an expert at building high quality tanks for low price. He doesn't offer it to everyone but I can ask him if you're interested, for his first fish house he made 25X 240 Gallon setups and none had any flaws.
