would like to get some guidance as to what I would need to get started.

my goal is to have coral/rock + fish (& maybe some shrimp lobster crab if that is possible) shark ray if possible mates

type of light

type of filtration (I guess AC110's not built for SW?) any simple not too expensive type to start with?

type of substrate

salt

water conditioner

protein skimmer

power head

etc.

any check lists around?

and estimated avg start up costs??

thks all

I just started my second reef tank (a smaller one). 25 gallon cube with overflow. My start up cost with middle of the road products is around $800. For a reef tank I would get these.
-tank with built in overflow (this is what I have on my own)
-sump
-return pump (tunze 634 gph)
-good skimmer (reef octopus 110 rated to 100 gallons)
-metal halide light (i run a 250 watt)
-good powerheads (hydor koralias are inexpensive and work great)
-heater
-live sand (1lb per gallon more if you want a deep sand bed)
-live rock (1 to 2lbs per gallon)
hope that helps.
