Hey guys, I have a 180g South American Tank. I have 1 Oscar (10inch), 1 Green Severum (5inch), 1 Chocolate (10inch), and 6 Silver Dollars. I wanted to add 2 more Severums, 1 Gold Severum and 1 Rotliel Severum. Do you guys thing that would be ok, it is an established tank a little over a year now. Do you think the Severum that has been in their for a year have a big problem with 2 new severum additions? Plan B was to to add 1 Geophagus Abalios Eartheater and thats it. What do you guys think, I appreciate your help!

Thanks, Steven

I think you'll be ok adding the severums, but there is no guarantee like with ANY cichlid community. One thing is that most (all?) geos should be kept in groups, so if you want to go that route keep that in mind. Hey, it's a 180 and you don't have a lot of fish, you could probably add both if you keep up on your water changes.

Also, is your green severum male or female? Are you planning on adding male severums? IME with severums if you get a pair they can become more aggressive than say keeping 3 males.

I do not know the sex of my Severum. I will post a pick later today and see what you think. I don't want them to breed so whether it is a male or female, I will stick with the same sex. What do you guys think of that? I would love to have 1 Green (allready have), 1 Gold, and 1 Rotliel Severum! Oscar, Chocolate, 3 Severums and the Silver Dollars I think would be an awsome tank, what do you guys think? Thanks for the help!

The males are better looking IMO. Feel free to post a pic of your green. I think that sounds like a good stock for a 180. :)

another way to go would be some of the acara species,i have always wanted to do a tank with some.blue acara is nice, there is also alot of others.might look nice contrast of size and color to your current fish.i am curious how does the oscar and chocolate get along?

The Oscar gets along with the Chocolate very well. They have there fights and stand offs with each other, but never anything serious or lasts more than 20secs. So what do you guys think, eartheater, 1 or 2 more sevs, or my lfs has some very rare lemon oscars, would another oscar of a different color work, keep in mind my oscar has had his territory established for more than a year now. Guys, not sure what i want to do, if anything at all, any suggestions would be really appreciated. FYI I really like the tank the way it is right now, I know its understocked but everyone looks happy. Thanks

i think if the other oscar is opposite sex of your current oscar it could cause problems, you would have to keep an eye on things.does your LFS have blue acaras? i would go with the sevs if it was my tank

I would go with your original plan and get a few more Sevs tbh, or give another Oscar a go and as said just keep an eye on things.

But as you have said even though it might look 'understocked' and everyone looks happy and your happy with the way it is then leave it, its really upto you to decide weather you want more Cichlids in their or not.

Good Luck.

Thanks Darren.

I would go with the severums AND the lemon oscar. My oscars always dwelled in pairs and I always liked it. If they fight u can remove the old oscar from the tank for like 3 -4 days rearange it and then put him back. If it would get too crowded I would dich the dollars and maybe put a couple of convicts as dithers. But that's just me..........
