Is this a good deal? $450 for a 150 gal with oak stand and canopy and glass tops. No lights, filters....what you see is what you get. The link below is to craigslist in San Antonio, has pics. I would have to drive to pick this up. Really would like to upgrade to the big tank.

I'd do maybe 300, but probably like 250. I'm not sure what tank prices are near you but if they are trying to get rid of it quick like it says in the ad it should be easy to get a deal on it.

if its used, then absolutely not, but if new, i could see 300$ish..thats asking a little much without anything..id offer somthing like 375 to get him down some..

I left a message and he called me back...he said that he has already reduced the price from $700 and that he might be able to meet me halfway (I live about 1 to 1.5 hrs from where he is) but I was thinking the same as you. I really want the bigger tank but if I spend $450 for just the tank and stand it will be another year before I can get it up and running having to buy gravel, filtration, lighting, background, and heaters. I already talked the price over with my wife and she wasn't too keen on the idea of how much. So I am probably going to call him back later and tell him that I am going to have to pass. He just posted the ad and it is Christmas so he definately will have some takers. If I miss out, it just wasn't meant to be.

Someday I will find my monster tank!!!

I have felt your pain. Being from the midwest I know what it is like to search and search for a big tank for a good price.

Craigslist is your best bet. You can use Search Tempest to search every CL listing in a X mile radius of where you are, the longer you are willing to drive, the better deal you will probably find.

I found a 135g Oceanic brand drilled with dual built in overflows for 90 dollars. I had to drive from KS to Colorado to get it. My dad came with and ended up buying a 90g and a 110g from a friend of the craigslist poster. For all three tanks the two of us spent less than 300 bucks.

The deals are out there, just stay vigilant and you will find them. Some people are selling the big tanks and are expecting to get what they paid for, others are selling them because they dont want them taking up room in their basement/garage and dont want to break their backs moving them. The latter are often cheap

ahh hes probably trying to make you think its a good deal because he "reduced it from 700 dollars!!" if hes stuck on the price, try the walking away technique, say youre walking, then maybe he'll give in :D:D lol either way you will find a great deal on CL or with this guy! good luck! :nilly:

Thanks to all your replies...he called me back, I told him $450 was too much. He didn't budge. So it's back to looking for my monster tank. I'll admit it is kind of fun trying to find a good deal on a big tank.

Your asking people in different states and countries a very regional question...that price is a bit high for Midwest, about fair for east coast and way high for west coast, especially socal. Hard to get a straight answer

Don't give up! I picked up a barely used Acrylic 240 gal complete setup, including 80 watt uv sterilizer, for 500. It was off CL and the guy said I was one of 50 emails he had received. It was just my lucky day and he called me first. I bought it that evening. I had been looking for over 6 months. I missed out on a lot of "deals" that I thought I would never see again, then a couple weeks later a better deal would pop up. Be patient and you'll find your tank.
