My oscars are about 8-9 inches now and they will be a year old soon. I noticed a lot of tail slapping and jaw locking at least two months ago and since then they have been doing it way more often. now the o that i think is the female is MEAN!! it's difficult for me to clean the tank because she attacks me, and she has been extremely aggressive towards the other tank mates. She even tries to get me through the glass when i walk by. She stays in one spot, right over a few flat rocks but i haven't noticed any eggs or fry. I'm worried because she is not really eating, so i tried some worms and she attacked them first and then ate them. Am I worrying too much or is she sick?

You would noticed the chalky looking eggs against on the rocks or other surface area. does the mate also tendto stay in that area? If there are eggs & they hatch then you'll see them swimming around in a week. Territorial behavior may or may not mean a spawning has occured. If she is eating less but still fighting then she is ok. sick animals put up little fight.

well i did a water change, and i have a few nicks because her area was not the cleanest. but eventually she let me clean everything, i didn't notice any eggs, and i read that they don't normally lay eggs in gravel. The other oscar is swimming around her too, and they are moving lots of gravel and fanning the area, occasionally they jaw lock and tail slap. she only wants live food too...
