Ok guys i need your help. Next year im moving into a house with my buddies and the landlord will only let us have a 30 gallon tank. i was hoping for 40 but thats what i ended up with. I have never done brackish before and was thinking about trying it out.

But what i need to know is what fish(if any) can stay in a 30 without having to upgrade later?

Cause i was going through the list and scat, mono, dats, archers, and columbian sharks are out.

So i was thinking maybe puffer or chromide?

help me out.

Fish you could have are :
F8 puffers - 2 of in that size tank
Orange Chromides
Wasp fish
Knight gobies
Bumblebee gobies
Archerfish - toxetes microlepis (speeling right i hope) 6" max size

Not necessarily all in the same tank :-)
Don't forget that if you go for puffers you might not be able to have any tanks mates, then again you might just depends on the puffers temperament.

Might pay to take a look at Neale Monks website on his FAQ's there's plenty of other fish on there.
Good on you for looking into it now as well.
Hope some of that helps.

Get a bigger tank, but only put 30 gals of water in. Call it a paludarium and go for mudskippers...
Not a bad idea and I still think you could get away with a few other fish in it as well :D

that is a sweet idea ive always wanted to try mudskippers. That would be a lot of fun.

I know that puffers can be nasty tankmates, so i accepted that if i do them they might be the only things that are in there. But i like the mudskipper idea that would be awesome. Could do someplants and stuff then keep some archers....see their natural behavior.

If you do a 30breeder you'll be able to get away with a few others as well.

As for the Archer (tox. c) those are nearly impossible to find.

I have a brackish tank. You can have spotted leaf fish, dragon eels, mini puffers, bumblebees, mollies, platys, rainbow gouramis, and a bunch of other less pretty fishes. I found that at Petsmart they listed on the fish stickers the ones that needed salt. Then I verified online. Don't get dragon gobies - they get really big.

What's a "mini" puffer that is BW?
