I went to my local grocery store and was trying to pick up tilapia and shrimp for my rays. And I was told my the seafood guy that it would be a risk feeding the stuff they have due to a possible contamination and where it comes from. Is there any truth to this or is there a certain brand that may be safer than others? I'm currently feeding black worms, ghost shrimp, bloodworms, and finally pellets. I wanna cut out live completely to cut down cost. Or maybe just occasionally.

if its ok for you to eat and consume i dont see how it can be bad for your fish.

Contamination? Could you be more specific?

That's all he really said is that whatever they spray the fish with or feed them can contaminate the tank. And I agree if its safe for us it should be for the rays. But I wanted to double check before I had any issues with my rays. So is it just the regular store brand stuff you guys use?

apparently there's been a bit of a shipping shortage on tilapia, not sure the reason for it, but i've tried many grocery stores in my area and none have it currently in stock, all claiming they haven't been receiving shipments. sadly, this is more cost effective for me to feed my rays this, just got them onto it too. what a pain.

I assume he is talking about Tilapia and Market prawn grown in ponds out of Asia. They use tons of antibiotics and other meds in the ponds.

I always get my tilapia from walmart in the frozen section. 11 bucks for 4 lbs.. never had any issues getting it nor with any of it being bad..
fingers crossed.. :)
