I'm thinking about possibly converting my 46 bow from fresh to salt and i was wondering how to do it and what equipment i would be able to save

I would not scrub the filter too well. The saltwater bacteria strain is a little different than freshwater but the FW bio filter will help jump start the SW. Live rock is very beneficial and a protein skimmer is also very helpful. Down the road, depending on your tap water, RO/DI and UV can be helpful in controlling algae and other things.

What type of filter?
A good scrubbing should probably be good.

On of them and the plan is fish only with the possibility of doing a reef later when my budget allows for better lighting

I used a smaller version of that same filter and it worked great. I would add an in-tank pt. skimmer.
