I have 6 discus between 3 and 5 inch. The 4 smallest ones have missing pieces in their upper fin. Real chunks bitten out, no tearing apart. Can it be that the bigger ones bite the smaller ones? Something about dominance? It only started about two weaks a go.

The only other fish in the tank that i see capable (by size of the mouth) of doing this are a keyhole cichlide (wich is very shy) or the aplocheilus goldlineatus.

I, personnaly, see no problems in keeping them to gether with small timid species, like keyholes, apistogramma or rams.

I think it are the discus that harrase each other. But is it normal behavior?

I have my 10 red turquoise with my angels which don't bother them at all. The discus tend to squabble with each other though. I would be more inclined to think that it's the discus bugging each other rather than the other fish. There's also harlequin rasboras, longfin blue leopard danios, male guppies, and an unknown mottled pleco in the same tank.

This is the discus, I had a red dragon and a couple of cobalts, and they beat the crap out of each other until they paired up and once everybody had a mate they were fine. Good luck with the discus they really a challange to raise.
