Hey there everyone,

Ive noticed this weird mucus looking things that are attached to my aquarium glass and im concerned. they are small clear/white specs that attach to the glass. It kinda reminds me of ick, but its not on my fish, it's on my glass, like a thin layer. Its starting to spread and looks like it will keep multiplying. Does anyone have an idea what it is? Im plannin to scrub the glass and change 50% of the water tomorrow.. but just wanted to see if anyone knows what it is. thanks for the help in advance

Uhh.. mine doesnt look like the ones in the picture.. well kinda.. but it looks like the ones in the picture actually moves around. what i have looks like a thin layer of slime stuck to the glass.. the only movement it really does is from the currents of the water

my tank does have light on often.. but i never noticed that film for the 9 years ive had the tank. I dont have an algae eater right now though, but i havent had one for like 3 years, so i dont think that makes a difference. I have bichirs so i cant get plecs, and flagtails are too expensive.

so if it's algae, do you suggest i just drop in some anti algae medicine since i dont have live plants? and could it be anything else besides algae?

i just wipe mine off the glass every so often bc its by a window and that takes care of it for me. A magnetic algae scraper should also be able to do the trick, as well as not turning the lights on so often.
However I am going by description alone, so as to what it is exactly, a pic would work the best.

If it's algae and not planaria, you could get rid of it by simply wiping it off. It's best not to use chemicals in the tank when it can be prevented.

Yes.... i agree with Druu, don't ever use chemicals UNLESS you have no other choice. Its good NOT to mess with the water parameter either. About the clear slimy thing on the inside of your tank... just use a magnet cleaner to wipe it off.
