This lungfish is close to two years of age. When she was purchased she measured about 7". Some 9"+ asian bumble bee catfish(at the fish store) had tried to swallow her many times. She lost all her whip like fins, and had a large scar on her left front side near her head. She grew to about 14" approx. 7 months later. Due to some very mean ctenopomas, she could never fully recover her fins. I sold the ctenopomas as soon as i realized what they had done. She managed to scrape herself again on the old scar site, most likely she became stuck in a rock crevice. From then on, an infection took hold. She stopped eating for 8 months and grew to 18". Recently, in the past 4-5 months, she has began eating well and is now 28". This must be the toughest type of fish to kill. I found that diluted tea tree oil(melaluca) works well in wound healing.

Awesome work on the fish! Why do you say "possible female" ?

By the way, if you ever decide to let her go, I would like first dibs. I collect them, actually.

My image is not showing, is there a way to make it come up on the post? The images of her are on my pictures. I say possible female because she grew so fast, has no filamentous projections on the pelvic fins, and she has a massive 3" girth. I have seen captive males and females side by side. Not always, but most times females are more heavy set.
