New life spectrum seems to be the brand of food everyone promotes the use of on here. I know I can order NLS from big als online but would not qualify for free shipping for just the food. I will resort to ordering it anyway if it comes down to it but wondering is there another brand considered to be just as good or close enough to it that I could pick up at either petsmart or pets unlimited?

Also .. the fish will be JD's, silver dollars & clown loaches

You can always use Hikari, or another brand, and add things such as frozen food- like krill etc..

We ship for free.

NLS is a good food, don't mistake me, but there are many good foods out there. (I wouldn't consider Hikari one of them though.) Angel's Plus, Almost Natural Tropical Fish food, omega one etc...

Go to the pet store and read the labels. If 5 of the first 8 ingredient are "____meal" don't consider it a good brand. Look for fillers such as Hydrolyzed feather meal, wheat gluten and corn or maize products. While those items are present in most feeds, they shouldn't be listed in the first few ingredients and you shouldn't see all of them in any one feed. Aquatic organisms need aquatic based feeds, look for ingredients like spilirilina, algae, kelp, salmon, shrimp or other sea creatures.

The OP lives in Canada, and sans an import permit from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency one can no longer import any type of pet food into Canada, at least not without risk of that food being confiscated at the border.

In Canada, BA's prices are the highest on all fish foods, there are places that sell NLS for far less $$$.

I actually already went ahead and ordered some NLS that I found online for a pretty good price. I didn't get much though so if you offer free shipping I will definatly get my next batch off you. (keeping in mind I am in NL, Canada).

Oops, RD's right. I didn't notice your location before. Unfortunately, going across the border is a no-go for us.
