I've been keeping a dozen young, WC gambusia with a WC female poecilia and noticed quite recently that she looked to be gravid. However, I kind of disregarded it as I have no males aside from the gambusia affinis in the tank, and all of the females are still too young for breeding.

Today, the black spot was missing from the molly and there is one single (to be seen anyway), fry which she seems to be fiercely guarding, chasing off other fish who get too near.

Granted, I won't know whether it's a hybrid or not until it gets larger. Is this even possible?

When I lived in FL, I tried to do just that and never had success. I don't think it's possible. Live bearers can carry semen for a very long time (don't remember exactly).

I breed Endlers Livebearers and have been able to kepp mature males away from the females for almost 4 months while the females carried on producing fry every month from 'stored sperm'.

I read about guppies hybridizing with gambusia but I am not sure if it was true. A lot of talk but no pictures. Someone even told me the guppies sold in stores have some gambusia blood in it.
