Hello everyone, and thanks for helping. I just stocked my 55g a few days ago, I got 1 JD, 1 Sev, 1 BRP, 1 FM, and 6 platies. Ammonia and nitrites are 0, nitrates are <20. Everything was fine the first day, but on the second morning, a couple platies showed minor signs of ich. I moved them to a 10g, added salt and bumped up temp. They are all still alive, and show improvement.

I'm nervous the Ich disease is still in the 55g, and I'm not sure if I should subject the 4 cichlids to the stress of the treatment. Today I saw some spots on the parrot's tail. They were whitish, but had kind of a sparkly shine, so I'm not sure if it's ich or just coloring. Furthermore, I would like to change some rock arrangements to provide more cover, but I think that added to to salt treatment would cause a lot of stress. I'm really in need of some help. Thank you.

It normally takes about 10 days at 86F to make sure you got the infection totally controlled. None of the fish you list are very salt or temp. sensitive and all will tolerate the 2tsp/gallon level of salt recommended. It is best to treat the entire tank as ich goes through a phase where it is free swimming ang another where cyasts are lying on the substrate. It is not unusual for them to look worse before they get better.

They will act pretty normal. I would treat the whole 55 to be sure the ich is cured.
