so I picked up a rtc the other day got him in the tank all is well with him for a few days, and I did a water change today and he is under a powerhead just sitting there and I noticed on top of his head it looks like smile coming off his head and backside, I think maybe he got stressed out and such from the water change possibly..... so I turned up the temp to 84deg, should I add salt in the tank as well .... there are others in my tank here as well, what all is there that I can do to prevent anything from wiping him out and my entire tank ?

Where is the ich part? Am I missing something?

From the description, it merely sounds like he didn't like your water change. It stressed him out and he shed his slime coat. Many cats do that after a WC but also occasionally/regularly too. If your WC has been done as right as it could have been, it's nothing to worry much about; just keep a close eye on him. If you are not sure, then this may be a good time to troubleshoot your WC.

ya my WC are always the same but this is the 1st WC he has encountered in my tank, so it freaked me out I guess as I had a cat couple yrs ago I lost from ich and he shedded slime coat like a SOB so my radar went nutty hahahaha but ya ive been watching him ever since and he isn't breathing as heavy, but still remands under the power head were he was before

Ich looks like small white "crumbs". It is not normal and is dealt with differently, if at all. Slime coat shedding may be normal and may be not. So, I guess, time will show. Keep us posted and put up some pics :) (only if you will, of course)

Hmmm, I think he didn't like the WC either, don't see any slime coming off him anymore.... But hard to tell as the tank light is off now, I have read online they shed slime when growing too... So since he in a larger tank then before he could have grown enough to shed slime in the 4 days.... I'll check him 2morrow and post

well checked him today and all seems as good as new he eating like normal, and no slime coming off him so guessing he didn't like my WC I did lol .... all though he still remains under the powerhead so maybe that is "his" spot lol

Do you use a water conditioner? Is it good, non-expired, not too old? Has anything changed in your water source - have you received any notices from your water provider or has a main been broken nearby recently or other repairs nearby have been done? When piping is repaired, the water providers usually add much more antibacterial chemicals to rectify the contamination.

These and other obvious questions could be prudent to try and answer to make sure it was but a fluke.

Not that I know of for any breaks or anything ..... Everyone else in the tank during the WC was golden, and I use Safe to treat my water (powder version) same as I have used over the last 3 yrs now without no trouble use it weekly when I do my weekly WC's

That's why I am saying it is either because the RTC has just been put in the tank, or it was a coincidence (possible but I think hardly so), or something out of the ordinary happened with your water supply. Do you match the temp for your WC?

Your other fish may simply be well established and/or hardier and more mature.

Rtc is about 8-9" and rest of fish are bigger 10"+ and there pbass, gold serverum, aro, WC temp usually go by feeling the water and I'm usually not that far off temp wise defintly not enough to make a drastic change, and heaters stay on during WC as well..... But ya coulda been just a fluke him being new and not knowing how WC's happen previous owner tank was stinky and dirty
