All,
I have a rubbermaid 300gallon ... what i was thinking is can i bury this tub in the ground and set it up as a koi pond? My only concern besides bear and other animals where i live is ... the cold weather... would this rubbermaid crack in the 0 degree temperature of a northern nj winter? If you think it will then tomorrow i start diggin a hole!
thanks

u might wanna go deep with this pond... i used to have a pond n this bird ate all my fish i was pissed

no dude the tubs are freakin tough.
my buddy has them on his ranch.
and bulls run them over and give them a TON of punishment. And he has never had to replace one

It's going to be hard to keep anything in it in the winter. The shallow depth and severe cold will be a problem. Also, try goldfish instead of koi. The volume is just not big enough for koi.

Hi Vinnstar,
I agree. It seems too small to set up as a Koi pond. But, to answer your original question. The Rubbermaid Stock Tanks are incredibly durable. Rarely crack due to heat or cold weather extremes.
It seems that I have been reading a lot about them being used for a "homemade" biofilter for a large Koi pond set up. I am actually thinking about trying it out. How about using it to hold gold fish and a few aquatic plants?
Good luck with whatever you decide.
