Possible rescue?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Should I take this fish? I have a 300g being built that should be here next month.

The fish I have now are.

1- 5" Vieja argentea that I think is a male

1- 6" EBJD

1- 6" female JD

1- 7" rockteil severum

1- 6" red spotted severum

1- 4" L091 Three Beacon Pleco

1- 5" Striped Raphael Catfish

Is it a parrot cichlid? Picture is horrible and the tank is nasty so not sure how well you can see it but there is a bubble hanging out its anus. What is going on with that? I feel sorry for the fish but dont want a fish thats going to just be a problem either. Any help or info? Thanks

If it's in your heart to save it then do it. Atleast it will have better care.

It may die just from being transported though. They said it has been in that tank for 15 years. Whats going on with the anus bubble?

Well, I think it would be a good deed and I bet the fish would survive the trip, if it's survived in the poor conditions for this long. But I don't think I would put him in your large tank with your other fish without quarantining and treating if necessaryy, incase it is sick.
It is a strange anal bubble, my first guess would be parasites causing anus to protrude. Possibly also a secondary infection since it is so big.
@RD any ideas on that?

My old pearsei had the prolapse for about two years. I tried treatment but it never fully receded. You can see it in this pic. Her issue was over eating so I put her on a diet and it did help it go down. She never seemed distressed by it. Sadly I lost her to age. She was at least 10 years old.

If it were me I would not put it, with those other cichlids.
But if you must, I'd give it an at least 3 month quarantine before it was put in with the community.

Peasei in nature are almost totally vegetarian, so most aquarium fare is too dense and packed with protein, and intestinal problems are often common for pearsei in aquariums when not fed a primarily vegan diet.

And being mutants with notably cramped and screwed up insides, BPs may have similar issues.

For my Cincilichthys (pearsei and bocourti) , leafy greens were fed at least every other day (if not more)so the cellulose would help clean out their gut.
