Under Water Bolling Lane
So i have two Fx5 canisters. One of them has had a nasty micro bubble problem for about a year. But it still works and i don't have the money to replace it so, i have spent the last year trouble shooting. No pads, only ceramic rings, not packed tight, greased all the seals on the canister, replaced the intake hose, and constantly clean the impeller for sand.

So......i had a fish that was growing some sort of fungus on its side. To treat i went and bought some Pimafix. When i dosed that tank i noticed tons of bubbles were created where the current was strong. Once the medication reached my canisters, tens of thousands of bubbles came shooting out of the Fx5 that had the micro bubble problem. It was so dense that i could bairly see into the tank. The tiny bubbles where everywhere. The fish didn't seem to mind so i left the tank alone for the night. When i woke up this morning, their were no more micro bubble shooting out of the Fx5. So its been clear of micro bubbles for 24 hours now. Well see how long it last.

My theory is that this medication attaches itself to bubbles in some way. It must have attached itself to the air trapped in the canister and made it light enough to shoot out the outtake.

Honestly, i have no idea why this worked. I was hoping someone who knew about the property's of Pimafix could explain. But i had never herd of this solution to the constant threads of Fx5 micro bubble problems. Let me know what you all think.

Voodo. Has to be Voodo. :nilly:

It sounds like the medication coated the inside of the filter and lubricated some part of it or has provided a "leak" fix. My guess is that it will only be temporary.

I find the bubble issue to be proper hose length and making sure the filter is under the tank fully. Seems to be setup and also making sure all the gaskets and seals do not have small tears in them sucking air into the filter.

Most canisters are a tad finicky, fx5 is high pressure/gph for a 5 gal bucket, i bet air is getting in, your intake tube may not be attached properly, turn it off, close the valves, yank the intake tube, siphon and hose, clean it under very warm water and put all back together.

Awhile ago i had the same problem but the clear plastic intake tube wasn't far enough into the rubber coupler, i bet you put more water in ur tank or the water level went down and it didn't seal at that coupler. Warm water will make it all go together easier and more solid

Well on to day 3 and still no bubbles. But i am still dosing the tank.

I am good on canister placment and i recently greased up the seals all over the canister. I use sand so im guessing its something related with that.

I run 2 FX5s filled with biomax and use sand and never had the micro bubble problem.

Well i use two Fx5s as well and only one has the problem. Both are set up the exact same way. I have herd of the legendary reliability of the Eheim. No funds to switch them over.

I started this thread not to try to find a solution to my canister bubbles but, to announce that i might have found a solution that could help others.

I do appreciate the advice from everyone.
