Ok so I cycled my tank for a month it's a 180g with a 55g sump a skimmer rated for 300g the brand has slipped my mind with 50lbs of live rOck (yes I need more I'm working on it hehe). Dropped in a 3 stripped damsel to help cycle and after a couple weeks and finally got a porcupine puffer he seems really well tempered however he does have teeth so I'm curious about possible tank mates, would appreciate any input thanks.

Actually porc puffers are very shy & best kept with smaller & mellow fish. Be sure you have plenty of rock caves in there, so he'll feel safe.

tank mates of my current porc

stars stripes puffer
green spotted puffer(x3)
hippo tang
purple tang
scat
gs maroon clownfish (pair)

fish in 7ft 200g tank that porc was origionaly in before his current tank
Redtooth triggerfish
sailfin tang (huge big boy)
clown trigger (feeding issue but not bad just had to throw in an extra serving of shrimp)
asfur angel
lunnar wrasse
tomato clownfish pair

tank mates of my previous porc before the tank crash of 2007(during a house move)

stars/stripes puffer
dogface puffer
long horn cowfish
V. lionfish(not a good choice as my porc impelled on spine and died, the porc would just drop to the bottom of the tank when lights went off and lion was under him 2x times the second time killed the porc but he was puntured both times by the venemous spines)
panther grouper
powder blue tang
pink skunk clownfish pair
harliquin tusk

Diondontidae seem to have problems in captivity.

They always seem sickly too me, and I think its because water quality is not good in these large, mixed fowlr tanks, and that they are not as agile swimmers as their cohorts, leaving them to be harassed and last in line when it comes to food.

Pufferpunk knows what she is talking about.

just not small enough to be food 'cuz they will chow down on bite sized tankmates

It would be helpful to know tank sizes (I only see one)--must be quite large. Also to know if these fish were all at adult sizes.

My porcupines beat up everything. I've had a lot of success with burrfish and bottom dwellers (oyster toads, scorpions, flounders etc...).

Like was posted, they tend to be the first ones to pick up things like cryptocarion and other external bugs. The up side is that they are pretty hard once established in the system. The pair I have right now have gone through several waves of crypt over the past year. (Gotta love open system water from the ocean.)

tanks
210g
200g
second 200g
175g bowfront
75g
55g
30g
29g (X3)
20g high
20g long

fish before tank crash(move) of 2007 were full adult sizes

the only fish currently that is full adult size is the sailfin tang, gsp puffers, lunnar wrasse and the scat the next step down from adult size 3/4?? of adult size fish is the clown trigger then the asfur angel everything else is 2 years of age or younger including the estimate of how old the fish lived in the wild before being jerked out of the ocean

the porc and stars/stripe puffers are the youngest currently at less than a year but by far the fastest growing and the fastest at bulking up the body mass

I have a blue jaw trigger
a GSM clown
a bird nose wrasse
and a princess parrot fish

as tank mates with my porcupine
