I've mainly kept single wet pets using dividers..(don't want to use it anymore)... I purchased a male 3" and female 2" carpintis vontehillo from this site in December.... My male kept jackin her up so I did put the divider back in but for whatever reason she keeps slipping through the holes and gettin jacked up again. I took the divider back out so she wouldn't get stuck. I tried some silver dollars as dithers but that didn't help. I'd like to have 1 or 2 more SA/CA cichlids in my tank. I'd prefer to stay away from Jacks, Oscars, GT's, Midas, and Flowerhorns since I've had them before, but I'm pretty much limited what can be purchased at my LFS which isn't much. If I had a choice...I guess an Oscar or Jack, maybe both.... Any suggestions?

90 gallon tank
using an Emperor 400 and Marineland 360 canister
large flower pots and 4" PVC pipes as decor (not pretty but works)

I don't think enough info is available on this particular Carpinte but I'm assuming they are like the other varients. I also have some of these guys and will more than likely just end up with a male or if I'm lucky a pair but I'm just going to have to wait and see. You might be able to try some other Herichthys species but may not be able to get them from your LFS. I have some Deppi that I'm thinking may eventually work with my carpinte but both species are on the aggressive side. I think an Oscar would be killed in a set up like that and a 90 gallon tank isn't that big. Are you planning to just have the pair? Seems like you'd want them to be able to breed and if you add something they may not. Carpinte are a tricky species because of their aggression level. I could see maybe a Grammode, Loiselli, or maybe a tiger Moto working with them but i have never tried this combo. Again you may not find any of these at your LFS and may have to order them from either Ira or Rapps.

I think I'll let these guys grow out by themselves and hope they breed after reading all these posts and threads about these lil gangsters. I had an extra male but gave it to a friend of mine who just got into fishkeeping. I told him they're illegal here in the U.S. and they grow up to two feet long....Oh...he's also under the assumption that we're probably the only two people here in Texas to have these.....I'll break him the bad news in a few weeks:ROFL:
