possible tankmate

I've got a friend offering me a free fish from lake lavon here in texas if I get him he will be with the bichirs after quarantine the problem is we don't know what the hell it is can any of you help I want to make sure my bichirs are safe

Wonder what fish is that, if its me i wont put it with the bichirs, you dont know how aggressive that fish is and how big they get, just my opinion

Beautiful fish. Not that this helps, but since it has two dorsal fins and is in North America, it is probably a centrarchid. Bass, sunfish, pike, crappies are all centrarchids. They are the fish that fill the cichlids' role in the northern hemisphere.
You should probably post this picture in the native fish forum. Those guys know about this stuff.

yeah he isn't going in the tank till I know what it is thats for sure. I've posted in my local fish forums too

nah not a pickerel but it could be a walleye, though it doesn't look like any walleye I've ever seen. Really cool fish though, hope it ends up being safe

it's fins are very similar to an orangethroat darter, maybe a close relative?
