accross the tracks...
Well a Red Devil mix didnt work out with my Midas,so what are your guys thoughts on possible tankmates for my 7" Midas??The Red Devil was a bit too aggressive for my Midas.

A lot will depend on the size of your system. The rest is up to the Midas. I keep a 7-8" Midas with a handful of cihclids, plecos and silver dollars, but it's in a 8' foot tank. i don't think i would have such luck in a 4 or 5 footer

edit: 125 should give you enough room to try other fish. What fish are you interested in? Cichlids, schoolers, bottom dwellers. Lots of things you could try

Actually i was thinking 1 other show fish and maybe a catfish and Pleco. My Midas seems very mild mannered but he/she was only in with the RD mix fish i had and it didnt fair very well.I havent added any hiding spots so i dont think there will be any territory disputes, should i get a fish a little smaller perhaps??

If your Midas is anything like my Flower Horn then adding other fish to your system could be a problem. My FH has claimed the entire 150g as his territory and he tolerates the Raphael Cats and Pleco in with him. He has killed silver dollars (I thought they would be alright since they were 3-4" long) so I'm not thinking adding another cichlid (unless it's a female, and maybe not even then) will work. You're either going to put a fish in there that your Midas will beat up on, or one that is stronger than your Midas that will knock him around the tank.
At this point it's all trial and error and keeping a close eye on the tank. Let us know if you find something that works.

thanks i will,if i cant add anything than the tank will belong to the Midaas.

^^ trial and error with other cihclids for sure. You won't know until you try.

As far as plecos and cichlids go, I'm going to pose a bit of "do as i say, not as i do" here. I mix several large cichlids with loricariids and have had good results, but they are in a large system and there are ALOT of separate zones and hiding places. The cichlids largely ignore the plecos, but I've seen other mixes that haven't worked out so well. I've seen smaller plecos get their eyes picked out by larger fish and I've seen larger plecos severely injure large fish as well, generally when defending themselves. If you are going to try any bottom dwellers, it wouldn't be a bad idea to add some wood, pipes or pots that only they can get under or into. I've been stuck by several plecos and can attest to the damage they can inflict just swimming away from a threat.

Some of my personal favs that don't get super big are L75, L114 and L14. These only reach about 10-12" at adult size so you could house them for life, as long as your Midas doesn't mind sharing a tank with them lol

Best of luck!

My Midas is exceptional in his tolerance of other cichlids. He is a total puppy dog at 11" and never had any issues with aggression. I have had him with JD, Salvini, Convict, Fenestratus, Freddie, Argentea, and his current tankmate is a Pearsei. Might help that I also have large silver dollar dithers which he will chase a little. The times I had him with multiple cichlids were in a 5' 120g tank. Now that he is in a 6' 210g tank he is even more mellow and barely even chases a silver dollar now. So it really depends on your fish, mines nice!
