Possible Tankmates?

The Gater gar looks a bit lonely . I was thinking a Peacock bass, and a bichir of some sort...any suggestions?

large growing bichirs is all you can hope for. obass should be great as gator gar food

I found out the hard way that goldfish are not compatible tankmates for a Gator Gar.

idk.. a buddy of mine got a gator gar, grew like crazy and ending up having a bichir in his mouth.. all depend on the size of the pbass and bichir, but gator grow so fast..

i would love a full tank of gars, but a variety of predatory fish would seem a bit more exotic imo...so what would you guys suggest?

did a little research, what about a ornate bichir and a shovelnose catfish?

You do know that P. Bass on the average get larger than most Bichirs

i'm aware of this, but bichirs don't have the level of activity or the body shape that pbass do, and this will attract the gator gars attention. find me a pbass that grows larger than a gator gar and then we'll consider them possible tankmates however it's also necessary that the bichir is roughly the same size or larger than the gator.

lets say i get a pbass near the same length as the gater ( which is about 7-8" or so) would they be ok with each other before i would have to move the gar into a pond?

yeah how long does the peabass stay under 20"? a gator has that long. perhaps less.
