Hi, I am currently setting up a 960l aquarium for stingrays and am looking for recommendations for good tank mates to make the tank look "full" on every level. I plan on keeping 2 P14s and possibly Silver or Asian Arowana.

I was thinking of adding maybe Oscars, a Datnoid or Parrot Cichlid, but as I said, I would like some more recommendations.

Also, what order of adding fish would you recommend?

Please note, this is only a temporary tank for next 12 to 18 months. The dimensions are 2x0.75x0.6 m.

Oscars don't mix well with rays. I can tell you this from personal experience. Everything was fine for a while, then the oscar started attacking the ray to the point of doing damage. The oscar was removed needless to say. Datnoids make great tank mates with rays and aros. I have a 96" × 40" tank with 2 rays, a large silver aro, and an 8" indo dat. Everybody gets along well. The dat picks on the aro some, but never does damage. Not sure if the tank you have will be big enough for a silver arowana...what's the footprint?

Never mind, saw the footprint at the bottom of your post. Don't put a small aro with your rays, they will most likely kill it. I grew mine out to about 18" before putting them together. Dats seem to hold there own at a small size. Mine was about 6" when I put it with two 12"+ rays. No problems.

Thanks, I do have a separate tank where I can grow the Arowana. How big is your arowana now?

He's around 22 inches. Really awesome fish. He's only about a year old, you won't have to wait long growing out your aro. I couldn't be happier with the balance of fish in this tank. Only 4 fish in a pretty large tank, but it looks right. The aro really fills in the empty space because he cruises the middle and upper level non-stop. Rays are all over. Dat pretty much does his own thing. Seems to like to hang with the calmer of my 2 rays.

I been keeping oscars with rays, for these past 6 months. So far the oscar is just pushing "hey! Outta my way" occasionally, but no bitting or anything to be concerned as yet. The O's are around 11-12in, while the rays i keep with them are around 8-14in.

Aro will be your best bet to comtank with rays. But make sure there is no major size difference between the aro and the ray.

A lot of people also comtank their rays with pbass :)

After some more research it seems that oscars are more of a hit and miss, some being aggressive and some not. I'd rather stay on the safe side and go without oscars.

If I go with 2 rays, an Arowana and a datnoid, are there any other potentially compatible fish or should I leave it at that? Thanks for the tip about pbass

I keep silver dollars and pink tailed chalceus with mine.
So far so good.
